Polecat Book II

How do I Qualify on a song?

Qualifying (or “Testing Out”): A singer will demonstrate their knowledge and mastery of a “Polecat” by performing it, with a quartet, in front of the chorus, off-book (memorized). If they can demonstrate sufficient accuracy of pitch, rhythm, and lyrics, they have successfully tested out! Hooray!

 
 

Incentives

Through your travels singing these songs, you will collect certain rewards:

Qualifying on Polecat Book I:

  • Per Song: Barberpole sticker, Song Book sign-off.

  • Six of Twelve: a Certificate (perhaps suited for a frame?)

  • Twelve of Twelve: a handsome enamel pin, depicting yours truly!

Qualifying on Polecat Book II:

  • Per Song: Barberpole sticker, Song Book sign-off.

  • Every 3 Songs: Big Die-Cut Sticket

  • Twelve of Twelve: Custom Polecat Pin (no design yet… TBD!)

Having Qualified on ALL Polecats (I & II):

  • A professional-grade Master Key Pitch Pipe

 
 

Did you know…

… that the Barberpole Cat Program was launched more than fifty years ago? Yeah, 1971 to be exact! It was a society-wide initiative to get singers back in-touch with the rich musical heritage of the barbershop style, and promote new quartet activity.

In the decades since the program began, thousands of new barbershoppers have eagerly joined the ranks of the noble Barberpole Cats!
